Other things to do in Portsmouth

Portsmouth is the UK's premier waterfront destination with miles of sea views and centuries of history. Portsmouth offers an exciting and varied range of things to do, here we have selected just a few to help guide you round the city.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Explore three of the most important warships ever built - HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose - and visit the fantastic Actions Stations and Royal Naval Museum. Take a harbour tour to see today's naval dockyard and bustling harbour in action.

Gunwharf Quays

Waterfront, shopping, dining and entertainment at Gunwharf Quays is a must. Enjoy some retail therapy at over 95 designer outlet stores, dine alfresco at one of the waterfront restaurants and enjoy the cinema or bowling alley of an evening.

Aspex Gallery

Aspex Gallery has made its mark with a series of inspirational exhibitions at its new home in Gunwharf Quays and the Royal Naval Museum has changing exhibitions, set against the permanent fixtures featuring portraits of Nelson and the famous Wylie's Panorama.

Blue Reef Aquarium

Visit Blue Reef Aquarium on the seafront and come face to face with sharks, rays and the delightful otters in tropical waters, (particularly good if the weather doesn't live up to your expectations!).

Southsea Castle

Built in 1544 for Henry VIII, the castle was an active military base for over 400 years, defending Portsmouth from invaders. The D-Day Museum next door is Portsmouth's moving tribute to the efforts and sacrifices of the Allies in defeating Nazi Germany.

Spitbank Fort

For something different, take a short boat ride out to Spitbank Fort for lunch. This man-made seafort is situated in the middle of the Solent and hosts a fantastic spitroast dinner on a Sunday lunchtime.
