Spinnaker Tower Signs the Armed Forces Covenant

Spinnaker Tower Signs the Armed Forces Covenant

We’re proud to announce that Spinnaker Tower has officially signed the Armed Forces Covenant, joining a growing community of organisations across Portsmouth who are committed to supporting serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families.

The signing took place high above the harbour in October, marking a proud moment for both the Tower and the city. By signing the Covenant, we pledge that those who serve, or have served, will be treated with fairness, respect and equal opportunity.

This commitment is part of Shaping Portsmouth’s Armed Forces Community Programme, an initiative that celebrates Portsmouth’s deep and historic ties with the military. With an estimated 37,000 residents – around 18% of the city’s population – belonging to the armed forces community, this connection is at the heart of what makes Portsmouth so special. The programme’s aim is simple but ambitious: to make Portsmouth the most welcoming and supportive city in the UK for the armed forces community, ensuring that the legacy of service continues to thrive.

Our General Manager Richard Hale signed the Covenant on behalf of the Tower, saying: “We’re honoured to show our support for those who serve and have served. As a proud Portsmouth icon, we’re committed to helping make our city an even more welcoming and supportive place for the armed forces community.”

Dave Humphries, CEO of Shaping Portsmouth, said: “The Armed Forces Covenant is a voluntary pledge that organisations make to show their support for serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families. It is a public promise to ensure that no one who serves, or has served, is disadvantaged in accessing goods, services, or employment, and that they are treated with fairness and respect. We are delighted that the Spinnaker Tower, a local icon synonymous with our city, which is in turn closely linked to our armed forces, has chosen to make this pledge.”

Spinnaker Tower joins The Mary Rose Museum as the second of three Portsmouth icons to make the public pledge. Together, we’re proud to stand with those who dedicate their lives to service – and we look forward to welcoming the Queens Hotel, the third Portsmouth icon who have joined us in signing.
